The Ensemble SONATORI DE LA GIOIOSA MARCA was founded in 1983 in Treviso ("Marca Gioiosa et Amorosa"), a city that had been part of the borderland (Marca) of the Venetian Repubblic since the 15th Century. They are recognized as one of the leading European Baroque ensembles specializing in Venetian music from Monteverdi to Vivaldi. In 1998 they performed with Cecilia Bartoli in Amsterdam, Cologne, Vienna, Salzburg, Frankfurt, Zürich, Dresden and Milano which was a tremendous success.

The Sonatori, after perfecting their talents with leading performers of ancient music at Basel's Schola Cantorum, London's Royal College of Music and Geneve's Centre de Musique Ancienne, developed an innovative and virtuoso style of interpretation, based on scholarschip and technical brilliance; notably their interpretation of Vivaldi' s violin repertoire has been internationally acknowledged. The Sonatori have participated in important European Festivals: playing in Paris, Wien , Brussels, Prague , Lisbon , Barcelona, Geneve, Bern, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, Luzern and in the major Italian cities.

The Sonatori's recordings with Giuliano Carmignola solo violin (label Divox) gained numerous awards. Since 1995 Sonatori's recordings have been sponsored by Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) and since 1999 they have recorded for Erato.
